Handmade Project : My Childhood Game, Five Stones

Earlier this week, I watched an episode of Running Man (Korea Variety Show)
They were playing "gonggi" which is what we called as "Five stones" in Singapore.

Below is a screenshot of Runningman ep. 110

Five stones game is commonly played in Singapore.
Almost every kid played this before, especially since our elementary school bookstores sell them.
I used to play with my friends after school in our canteen.

Such a beautiful childhood memory :)

So I chose my favourite polka dot fabric and make decided to make a set for myself this afternoon.

It is fun and easy to make.

Each pouch is filled with rice, but you may use either rice or beans.
Now, I got really excited and shall try out my "five stones" skills :)

To know how to play, you can try searching it in youtube.
There is so many different way to play, you can even create or design your own method.
If I have the time, I shall post my way of playing five stones :)

Have a good day !

Went out with my mum today for some shopping !
I was suppose to buy some fabric but sadly the store was closed (due to public holiday)

Luckily, another store was opened. It was one of my favourite supply store !
They have almost everything, except fabrics.

So I bought a dozen of zippers, chains and threads.

*Happy day*

Earth Globe Sharpener

Today, I happened to walk past an art store located in City Hall, Singapore.

Bought this lovely sharpener from paper market which fitted my ETSY shop perfectly.

Now, I know roughly where my parcel is going to ship to. Plus this little globe does not take up any space.

*Perfect*

Well, Singapore is not in the globe...which is quite common >o<

How to set up your sewing machine

Setting up the Sewing Machine

All sewing machines should arrived in standard setting.
Do not touch, adjust or turn anything yet.

You should always read up the manual first, and check if you have all accessories as stated in the manual.

Step 1 :
Find a sturdy desk, and place the sewing machine at a comfortable distance away from you.
Attach the cord to the sewing machine, and place the foot pedal on the floor then plug in another side to the socket.

Note: My monitor keep twitching when I used the same socket for my sewing machine.

Step 2:
The needle should be already attached to the sewing machine.Remove paper below the needle if there is any.
You may turn the knob (hand wheel) to remove it.

Step 3:
We will start up by preparing the bobbin (bottom thread)
Follow the instruction shown on the sewing machine.

Insert thread through the plastic bobbin. Ensure thread end is long enough for a firm grip.

Turn on the sewing machine, & switch it to the right (see below). Hold on to the thread end.Slightly step on foot pedal...Allows plastic bobbin to spin afew rounds before you cut the thread end and continue to fill up the bobbin.

When it is full, cut it ! :D

Put back the bobbin, ensure it is locked .

Step 4:
Next, we will set up the top thread. Please make sure you use the same quality of thread for top and bottom. Colours can be different.

Hold the top thread in front of you, turn the handwheel towards you.
You will see the bottom thread is now on top of your top thread. Pull (the thread you are holding) slightly. When you see the bottom thread, pull out a reasonable length and pull back both thread.

Step 5:
Now, let's try out the sewing machine.
You can draw straight lines, or curves and sew along the lines.
Or try out different styles of sewing designs.

Have Fun !!

The Sewing Machine

The Sewing Machine

My sewing machine was from my fiance.
He is such a thoughtful man, and always shower me with pleasant surprises ! :)

-
Well..
Let my introduce you my humble Singer Sewing Machine, 8280.

This is a basic sewing machine from Singer.
I'll definitely recommend this machine to people who want to try out sewing.

It is lightweight, compact and easy to use.
The accessories for the machines are inside the storage case, that is attached to the machine. It includes 3 plastic bobbin cases and a packet of needles.
*sweet*

The machine has all the necessary stitches to get things going.
- Basic straight & zigzag stitches.
Also comes with all purpose footer, zipper footer and a buttonhole foot.

Sewing machine foot pedal - It is made of plastic, so it is really light.
I will need to stick a rubber pad at the bottom to make it stay.

The pedal is incredibly easy to control.
It goes as slow as I wanted to.

Thread cutter - It has a thread cutter on the left side, just beside the lightbulb.

In conclude, it is an user-friendly, simple little sewing machine.
The perfect one for me !

-

Really thank my fiance who went down after lunch to get this without me knowing.
:D
