Needle Felt Kit : Onigiri Magnet

HELLO EVERYONE !!!

Today I got a new needle felt kit !

Other than origiri, there are eggplant and tomato.

The kit comes with a magnet so I thought this project are rather useful too.

This is a beginner pack.
Perfect kit for new starters who would like to try out needle felting.

At first needle felting is rather tough, and I didn't enjoy it very much as I wasted the materials and it looks really awful. I also got hurt quite a few times from all those poking*.

But with the right project, I realised needle felting can be easy and fun.

Let's get started :

(below) the cardboard is included in the kit.
Although the instructions are in Japanese, there are diagrams to helps you understand how to get the right sizing.

I'll be making the onigiri first.
So I shaped it into a triangle and taped it.

Simply stuff the felt into it and start poking ~
Remember to turn to another side as well.

After you get the shape, poke the sides as well.

The tricky part for me is always the face.

I always have difficulties putting a smile on, so I hope this onigiri doesn't look weird.

By the way the red nose reminds me of snowman, especially when the onigiri happens to be white.

That's all for today.

Have a great weekend everyone !

Book : Yoshiko Tsukiori – Stylish Dress Book Review

Stylish Sewing Book by Yoshiko Tsukiori

Earlier this week, I came across this book in Amazon.com
It comes with 26 patterns which makes it easier for new seamstress.

I got mine from Kinokuniya at SGD$25.68

I always feel excited when I got a new book.
It means new project coming up !

(below) This is how the book looks like

(below) The sizing chart for your references

I love how simple this book is. It is like a fashion catalog.
It shows 26 different types of designs, and the tutorials at the back.

After browsing through, I found out I wanted to try all designs. The designs are fantastic !
There are dresses and top designs.

The patterns are found at the back.
It is different from "Sew Everything Workshop Book". These patterns are printed on paper, which you will need to transfer or trace them out on a pattern paper.
Note: The patterns come in 2 sided.

Overall,
it is a simple dressmaking book with simple, straight  forward guidelines in making these clothings.
Basic knowledge in sewing recommended before you get this book as it uses dressmaking terms.

Suitable for intermediate - experienced seamstress.

NEEDLE FELT - CATS

Felting is just as hard as I thought.

The beginner packs are really easy and fun.
I felt a sense of achievement right after I have completed all three little heads - Panda, Cat, Dog.

Next, I tried an advance pack and failed totally.
So I returned back into the beginner pack.

I found out I may have failed because I didn't get the instruction right since it is in Japanese and I got the size wrong. :X

First I start off with the base, beige felt

Then, I wrapped with the yellow felt.
Actually I have no idea why we can't use yellow right in the beginning..hmmm

Next, I proceed to do the ears.

Ta-dah, after 2.5 hours of felting.
It is completed.

What a big different in size !
No wonder the eyes can't fit on the small cat, and I have to use the ones I bought in Japan.

I love the tail !
I think it looks alot better this time round :)

Practice and more practice so I can move on to the advance designs.

Felting lessons are available in Singapore.
For those who are interested, you can sign up at Spotlight or Golden dragon store.
