DIY Fish Pillow

"Christmas Special"

DIY Project for everyone

15 mins DIY Gift idea

Recently, I have been fishing every weekend so I decided to make a fish pillow out of fun. I found some fat quarters folded in the drawers and a big pack of stuffing lying under my bed. I decided to make full use of them. In an instant, a fish pillow was made. I love it so much ! It's adorable and can be use as wrist rest.

Fish Pillow

What you'll need:
- 1 fat quarter
- 1 pack of stuffing
- Tracing / butter paper
- Chalk pencil
- Threads & needle
- Sewing machine

Step 1:

Fold the tracing paper into half and draw a fish shape.

Step 2:

Cut out the fish.

Step 3:

Pin the pattern paper on the fabric. Make sure you have iron flat the fabric and the fabric is folded with right side facing each other.

Step 4:

Use chalk pencil to draw the seam allowance according to the pattern.

Step 5:

Sew around the fish and leave about 2 inch at the tail so we can put in stuffing later.

Step 6:

Sew the fish using the sewing machine.

Step 7:

Turn inside out and start putting in stuffing. This is my favourite part as we can add the amount to our preferences.

Ta-dah !! It is done. Isn't it adorable ?

Start making yours today !

Have a great weekend ahead !

Shopping for fabrics in Singapore

Hi people,

This  morning I dropped by at Dhoby Ghaut station for breakfast.
I am lucky to pass by Spotlight (Plaza Singapura) where they are having a 30% storewide discount.
So I got my shear scissor at lower price. YAY !

In the noon, I went to Chinatown People Park Centre.
My main purpose of this trip is to get materials to make a tote bag.
I just realised the materials used to make a tote bag isn't cheap.
Or maybe not in Singapore.

During my hunt, I got alittle sidetrack which I ended up with more fabrics and some little trinkets.
Well, you know all these fabrics all too pretty to resist.
So "BUY NOW, THINK LATER" ~

:)

Here are some of the loots I got from today shopping spree :

Some cute fat quarter fabrics:

I ponder quite a while on this fabric because I have no idea what to make out of this.
The fabric actually look way prettier in real life than in photo because it have gitters on it which makes it shine. Moreover it is in bright purple colour.

Tote bag essentials :

What a fruitful but tiring day !

Glad I got all the materials I need for my new project.

Have a great weekend everyone !

Zippers & Fabrics

Hello everyone !

Today is such an excited day.

I have bought alot of supplies which include fabrics, zippers, interfacing, and casing for my macaron coin purse.

Other than these colourful zippers, I have beige and red zippers as well.
Beige zippers are my favourite because they matches all fabrics but colourful zippers are cuter.

Polka dots are very popular.
So I bought this two prints which I think it looks really sweet and lovely.
I plan to use this fabric for my new macaron design.

(below) Some fabrics that I bought.
I prefer to get fat quarters for my macaron coin purse, so I can have various print for my items.

Other than getting supplies for my ETSY shop.
I bought some cute stationery.

These are really useful as I get ideas as and when, so it would be great to jot them immediately in case I forget.
I love the rainbow print - fairykei style.

(from the.paper.stone)

Not forgetting getting a new set of colour pencils as well.
It been a long time since I use colour pencils. It seems like I'm buying stationery for school.

Alright that's all for today.

Needle Felt Kit : Onigiri Magnet

HELLO EVERYONE !!!

Today I got a new needle felt kit !

Other than origiri, there are eggplant and tomato.

The kit comes with a magnet so I thought this project are rather useful too.

This is a beginner pack.
Perfect kit for new starters who would like to try out needle felting.

At first needle felting is rather tough, and I didn't enjoy it very much as I wasted the materials and it looks really awful. I also got hurt quite a few times from all those poking*.

But with the right project, I realised needle felting can be easy and fun.

Let's get started :

(below) the cardboard is included in the kit.
Although the instructions are in Japanese, there are diagrams to helps you understand how to get the right sizing.

I'll be making the onigiri first.
So I shaped it into a triangle and taped it.

Simply stuff the felt into it and start poking ~
Remember to turn to another side as well.

After you get the shape, poke the sides as well.

The tricky part for me is always the face.

I always have difficulties putting a smile on, so I hope this onigiri doesn't look weird.

By the way the red nose reminds me of snowman, especially when the onigiri happens to be white.

That's all for today.

Have a great weekend everyone !

Book : Yoshiko Tsukiori – Stylish Dress Book Review

Stylish Sewing Book by Yoshiko Tsukiori

Earlier this week, I came across this book in Amazon.com
It comes with 26 patterns which makes it easier for new seamstress.

I got mine from Kinokuniya at SGD$25.68

I always feel excited when I got a new book.
It means new project coming up !

(below) This is how the book looks like

(below) The sizing chart for your references

I love how simple this book is. It is like a fashion catalog.
It shows 26 different types of designs, and the tutorials at the back.

After browsing through, I found out I wanted to try all designs. The designs are fantastic !
There are dresses and top designs.

The patterns are found at the back.
It is different from "Sew Everything Workshop Book". These patterns are printed on paper, which you will need to transfer or trace them out on a pattern paper.
Note: The patterns come in 2 sided.

Overall,
it is a simple dressmaking book with simple, straight  forward guidelines in making these clothings.
Basic knowledge in sewing recommended before you get this book as it uses dressmaking terms.

Suitable for intermediate - experienced seamstress.

NEEDLE FELT - CATS

Felting is just as hard as I thought.

The beginner packs are really easy and fun.
I felt a sense of achievement right after I have completed all three little heads - Panda, Cat, Dog.

Next, I tried an advance pack and failed totally.
So I returned back into the beginner pack.

I found out I may have failed because I didn't get the instruction right since it is in Japanese and I got the size wrong. :X

First I start off with the base, beige felt

Then, I wrapped with the yellow felt.
Actually I have no idea why we can't use yellow right in the beginning..hmmm

Next, I proceed to do the ears.

Ta-dah, after 2.5 hours of felting.
It is completed.

What a big different in size !
No wonder the eyes can't fit on the small cat, and I have to use the ones I bought in Japan.

I love the tail !
I think it looks alot better this time round :)

Practice and more practice so I can move on to the advance designs.

Felting lessons are available in Singapore.
For those who are interested, you can sign up at Spotlight or Golden dragon store.
